It seems like only yesterday that I met Billie Jones as the newly elected LGM from District 15 when we both attended training at Regional Conference. From that moment, we were destined to be friends because of two loves in common – Toastmasters and Storytelling.

As the years have unfolded, I’ve learned so much from Billie as she mentored me in the fine art of storytelling, showing how – sharing why – always with her love for her craft as a beacon. Her storytelling workshops are spellbinding. That was Billie, shining as a storyteller.

Many years later after that first training session together, I was the 2nd year International Director and, as such, the Chairman for the Region 1 Conference held in Salt Lake City. I had the joy of working with Billie as the Host District 15 Chairman – that was Billie, shining as a Toastmaster. She had everyone working for a common goal – the best ever Region I Conference! Each of the Committee Chairs followed her example; it was an incredible conference. Having served as Host District Chairman previously, I was deeply aware of the responsibilities of the role and how well she led the District 15 team.

If you have a grandson who will be graduating from high school the year you are 2nd year ID, there’s an unwritten rule somewhere that says graduation will be the same weekend as the Conference – in another State! Thanks to Billie and 1st year ID Judy Laythorpe working as an unstoppable team, I was able to leave the conference at noon on Friday, attend graduation on Friday night in Bremerton WA and be back at the Conference in Salt Lake City on Saturday morning, a little short of sleep but there because of special efforts coordinated by Billie. That’s just one example of the extra mile Billie goes to make each member feel that Toastmasters is the best family – providing guidance, friendship and support and Billie shining as a leader as she travels with joy in the journey in Toastmasters. I am honored to be her friend.

Betty W. Eisenzimmer, DTM, PDG (D2), PID

"Billie Jones DTM, PDG, has been actively involved over the last several years as a past District Governor supporting both District and Regional leadership. She served as conference chair for the last Regional Conference held here in Salt Lake City in June 2003 and she is currently chairperson of the Club Extension and Demo Committee for Division D and other Divisions as requested. Billie's journey in Toastmasters has brought her success in her professional career and personal life by developing and teaching effective communications skills. These skills are becoming more important in today's diverse societies and will be at the forefront of understanding other cultures and demonstrating how we all can benefit from Toastmasters. Billie's objective as an International Director will be to utilize technology to better serve the growing membership of Toastmasters from diverse cultures in addition to building on the accomplishments of previous Directors to further develop and improve the organization. Billie has the skills and expertise to help not only District 15 but all of Toastmasters to grow and serve the entire membership base while preserving the feeling of our Toastmasters family. Please lend your support to Billie as she follows her quest to be your next International Director from Region One."

Dick Carr - PDG, D15

"Billie Jones has the demonstrated knowledge and dedication to the Toastmasters organization. Billie is the guru of club building for District 15. She is always willing to share, serve and be a mentor. She is truly cares about Toastmasters and will care about you."

Susan Baer, DTM, IPDG, D15

"I met Billie seven years ago when she was presenting an Education Session at the Region I Conference in Oakland California. I was mesmerized by her talent as a Storyteller. She got everyone in that session all excited about the Advanced Storytelling manual. I have since gotten more acquainted with Billie in my journey through the District chairs and have found her to be so helpful to an out of town District Officer when the Regional was in Salt Lake City in 2003. To me Billie Jones would make an outstanding International Director with a lot of energy and talent to share."

Bernie Lunsford DTM, PDG, D7

"I have known, and admired, Billie for a number of years. I first met her as I was filling the position of D9 LGET in 1994-1995. That was the year Billie led D15 to Distinguished. The following year, while I was D9 Governor, I had numerous opportunities to ask for, and receive her valuable insight on many topics of leadership. We have maintained our friendship throughout the last 11 years, to the benefit of many, many Toastmasters. I strongly endorse Billie for the position of Region I International Director. Once elected, she will continue to bring the qualities and skills to the Board of Directors that Region I Toastmasters have come to expect.

Ed Keeney, DTM4, PDG (D-9/95-96)

"Billie was my first Toastmasters mentor - and was the first to tell me I had a chance to go to, and perhaps even win, the World Championship of Public Speaking. She has been a calming influence even as she has spurred me to action, both as a speaker and leader within Toastmasters. As an ID, she can do no less than inspire the champion in all of us."

Rich Hopkins, ATM-G, 2006 World Champion of Public Speaking 3rd Place Winner (D15)

"Billie Jones epitomizes what Toastmasters in all about. She continues to give of her time to assist the District in a wide array of endeavors. She has been our District's Historian for a number of years. She chaired the 2003 Region I Conference in Salt Lake City while I was the District Governor. I witnessed first hand Billie's leadership abilities to make everyone feel important by contributing to the final decision as a vital part of the team. Billie has my wholehearted support in her venture to serve as our International Director for Region I."

Victor R. Hernandez DTM, Distinguished District 15 Gov., 1999-2000 & 2002-2003 (801) 251-4566

"Billie Jones is amazingly generous with her time and her support as she coaches aspiring and accomplished public speakers and storytellers as well. I am so motivated by the emotional involvement and expressiveness she brings to her messages at Toastmaster's meetings and her story interpretations at meeting of the Olympus Chapter of the Utah Storytelling Guild. I feel privileged to know Billie and to benefit from her resourcefulness!"
